Creating and assigning a component structure
Updated over a month ago

The component structure enables you to create the blueprint of the asset by building up the component tree. You can create a clear structure by defining the parent to which the component is attached to the vehicle.

As a company admin, you can create the tree structure of components in the admin menu.

If you don't have admin rights to access the administration panel, please contact your company admin and ask him to create the components or sub-components for you.

Creating a component structure

After creating your component types, you can start setting up the component structure for a specific group of assets. A component structure reflects the blueprint of components you want to track on an asset.

As a company admin, you can create this blueprint of components directly on the admin page by navigating to "Component structures" in the section "Component management".

On this page, you can find a complete overview of all component structures created by your company.

If you want to create a new component structure, click on the green "Add component structure" button in the upper right corner of your screen.

To create the tree structure, define the parent of the component and choose the respective item from the dropdown list.

Here is a simple example of how a component structure can look like:

This structure is created and built up, as follows:

  • Component structure: Test 1

  • Component structure Test 2, where parent is Test 1

  • Component structure Test 3, where parent is Test 2

  • Component structure Test 4, where parent is Test 3

Component structure and labels

A component type defines if two components are fundamentally interchangeable, while the component structure defines the locomotive structure of components and enables the assignation of logical naming (such as 1, 2 or back and front).
To ensure you can attach any component type to each position in a component structure, we suggest that you create only the component type "Component type X" without differentiating "Component type X 1" and "Component type X 2" as component type and configure the exact location (1, 2, back, front, etc.) as labels in the structure.

Here is an example for Test component with the label 1.

This will look in the component structure as follows:

The labels you set up on the administration page are also visible on the Component management page. This enables you to easily define which component with which serial number should be mounted in which location in the structure.

Assigning a component structure

It is now time to assign the component structure to your assets.

To assign the component structure individually for each asset, simply go to the assets menu, look for the asset you'd like to update and click on its ID to open the asset page.

Select your component structure from the dropdown menu, then save.

If your asset already has a component structure and you're assigning a new one, this can impact preventive maintenance scheduling.
