Creating a component
Updated over a week ago

Once the component types have been created as explained in the following article, you need to manually create each component for each component type with its serial number that you want to follow up.

Creating a component

If you are a company admin, you can create components of the component types you created in advance.

To do so, go to the administration panel, head to the "Component management" section, and click on "Components."

You will see a list of all the components that already exist for your company.

You can create your own components, forming a structural tree of your assets. Each component for which you want to track all the components requires a separate input. Then, you can manually define which component is located where in the asset component structure.

To create a new component, click on the green button "Add component" in the upper right corner of your screen. A new form will appear on your screen with the mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*).

  • Select a component type (mandatory)

  • Add a serial number (mandatory)

  • Build date: The date when the component was built. This date will be used as the initialisation date for preventive maintenance on the component level.
Registering the build date of a component is important as this date will be used as the initialisation date for preventive maintenance. Without a build date, the system will start adding preventive maintenance events starting from 2002, which will create too many unnecessary preventive events if the asset was built on a later date.

A few fields, such as Parent, Component structure, Asset and Inventory, are marked with "-" and can't be manually edited.

  • The inventory will be automatically updated to your default inventory after you save your component.

  • The other positions will be displayed after you mount the component into the component structure of the asset.

Once you've finished creating your component, click on the "Save" button in the upper right corner of your screen. After creation, the location of the component will automatically appear in the default inventory location.

Creating a head component

You not only need to create your sub-components but also need to define the head component to which the sub and further child components can be attached.

The head component is usually the chassis, the frame of the locomotive or train.

If you are a company admin, you can easily create a head component on the admin page under Components in the section Component management.

To create a head component, follow the same steps as the steps for creating a component. The steps are described above.

The component type of the head component can be, for example, the asset type, the variant, the modi, etc.

Once you've finished setting up your head component, click on the "Save" button in the upper right corner of your screen. After creation, this component will also be automatically stored in the default inventory location.

Once these above-listed steps have been carried out, you can head to the Component management page.
