Creating operation groups

Create operation groups for your maintenance plan or component structure

Updated over a week ago

The Railnova platform enables railway organisations to digitise their entire fleet management process.

The platform also allows users to set up their entire preventive (usage-based) maintenance plans and have all due dates computed automatically based on the telematics or manually registered data that are available.

If you are a Railnova company administrator, you can set up and manage your preventive maintenance plans for your assets under the administration panel. If you don't have the necessary permissions, please contact an administrator at your company.

To create your maintenance plan, you’ll first need to ensure that the counter types and counters you will need are available on the Railnova platform. Follow the steps as described in the following article to set up counter types and counters for your rolling stock: Creating counter types and counters

Create operation groups

After creating counter types and counters, the next step in setting up your preventive maintenance plan is to create your operation groups. An operation group is a collection of linked operations, such as all your motor maintenance operations.

To set up your operation groups, go to the “Preventive maintenance settings” section on the admin home page and click on “Operation groups”.

On the next page, you will find a complete overview of all of the operation groups that have been created by your company.

If the desired operation group doesn't exist yet, you can create it by clicking on the green “add operation group” button at the top of the page.

A new form will open, and you’ll be able to

  • Give your operation group a name

  • Select one of the available counter types (optional)

  • Choose a parent operation (optional)

  • Enter all the operations by clicking on the link "Add another Operation" that should be part of the operation group, including the intervals, the tolerance if applicable, a time limit etc.

  • Make sure that the operation is set to “active” for the maintenance plan to take it into account.

When setting up the operations, you must define each operation's intervals and/or time limits. The values you can choose from are the following:

  • interval: the value (in the same unit as the counter you chose for that operation group) between two operations of this type, e.g. hours or kilometres

  • interval tolerance: tolerance on the interval, e.g. hours or kilometres

  • time limit: maximum duration in days between two operations of this type

  • time limit tolerance: tolerance on the time limit (in days)

  • repeat: number of times that the operation should be repeated. If left at 0, there is no limit, and the operation will be done as often as indicated in the interval/time limit.

  • safety operation (if applicable)

  • is active: this box will automatically be ticked as soon as you create the operation

Note that all the operations in one group must have the same setup: either all operations only have an interval, or they all only have a time limit, or they all have both. You cannot add operations in one group if one operation has only an interval, another has only a time limit, and a third one has both.

Once you’ve filled out the form, you can save the operation group using the blue "Save" button in the upper right corner of the page.

Please note that every time you add a new operation group to your maintenance plan, it will automatically add events starting from the build date of the locomotive.

After you've created your counter types and operation groups, you're ready to set up your maintenance plan as explained in this article.
