Current localisation of assets

Updated over 9 months ago

If your assets or the assets shared with your company on the Railnova platform are connected to Railnova's remote condition monitoring and/or an external GPS device, you will be able to locate those assets on the map and view a snapshot of their available telematics data.

Map view

The Map page provides you with an option to view your assets on the Railways map by Railnova or display them on the Google Road or Google Satellite map and turn the traffic overlay on or off.

You can also easily zoom in or out on the map using the "+" or "-" icons on the right-hand side of the page or switch to full-screen view by clicking on the symbol below the "+" and "-" buttons. To exit the full screen, press the "Esc".

Use the Path Distance tool (by clicking on the icon as shown in the picture below) to measure the horizontal and/or vertical distance along a polyline. Zoom out so you can see the area to measure. Click the starting point, and then click the subsequent points that make up the polyline. The distance between each two points appears on the line between the points. To complete the polyline, double-click. The total distance is displayed on a separate label.

To clear all current measurements, click on the |-> icon. To delete a single point, press SHIFT+key.

If you want to move the last point, click on the point and drag it with your mouse to the location of your choice. The measured distance will be automatically updated.

To look up a location, use the search function (🔍):

The following interesting points are marked by symbols and are shown on the map:

  • Stations

  • Workshops

Filters

If you wish only to show a subset of assets or one specific asset on the map, you can use the filter options at the top left of the page.

If you want to view the map only, you can hide or show the filter menu to your liking by using the buttons as shown in the picture below.

The default values you can filter on are:

  • Asset and asset class: type the name of your asset or asset class in the filter field or scroll down the drop-down menu to select an asset or asset class. You can select one or more assets or asset classes; all selected items will be displayed below the filters.

  • Labels: search for assets based on the category labels you or your administrator created in the admin. These labels could be items from the category "maintainer" or "ECM", and this way, you can search for the assets maintained by one (or more) specific maintainer(s). You can select multiple labels at once.

  • Operational status: filter assets based on their operational status (operational, degraded or immobilised).

  • Tech status: look for assets on the map that are in traction, parked, idling, or those that are powered on or are being used in vehicle mode.

These filters are the same as the ones on the Operational Dashboard.

To remove an item from the filtering results, click on the blue "x" icon right next to the item (e.g. an asset class or tech status) you wish to remove. To remove all filtering, click on the grey "x" icon on the right-hand side of the selected items.

Detailed view

Once you have located the asset on the map, you can click on its name on the map to open its detailed view, gain more information and see a snapshot of the key telematic values available for the selected asset:

If you see that the status is crossed out and greyed out, it means that it's considered not up-to-date at that specific moment. It could be due to poor reception, and the status will be updated again once the reception is good.
