Rule replay

Test your rule with Rule replay

Updated over 8 months ago

After you have followed the steps described in the following article and have created a rule in the Railgenius Rule Engine on the platform, you can test it with "Rule replay".

You can access it directly in the admin menu by navigating to the Railgenius section and heading to Rule replays under Rule engine.

On this page, you can see all rule replays created by your company.

Viewing rule replays

If you want to review a previously created rule replay, click on the blue link to see the replay results:

  • the rule

  • start and end time of the reviewed period

  • company (your company is predefined)

  • the user who created the rule replay

  • the date and time the replay had been ran

  • if the rule was modified after this replay was created

  • the chosen assets in the replay

  • alerts triggered in replay

Creating a replay

If you want to test your rule, you will need to create a new replay by clicking on the green "Add rule replay" button on the overview page in the upper right corner of your screen. With this function, you can test both active and inactive rules.

A new page will appear on your screen with a form to fill in:

  • Rule: select a rule from the dropdown list

  • Start time: define a start date and time (note that the rule replay can only be done within the period in which the data is available in the telematics data)

  • End time: define an end date and time (note that the rule replay can only be done within the period in which the data is available in the telematics data

  • Company: your company is predefined

  • Asset: choose an asset from the dropdown list.
If you would like to run the replay for more than one asset, you can add another vehicle by clicking on the blue "Add another Rule Replay Asset" link and choosing it from the dropdown list.
It is not possible to select and add multiple assets or an asset class at the same time. Each asset must be added individually to the rule replay.
If you mistakenly added an asset not required for your rule replay, you can remove it with the blue "Remove" link at the end of the asset line in question.

To run the rule replay, hit the blue "Start replay" button.

Alerts triggered in Replay

The alerts triggered in the reviewed period will be listed under the "Alerts triggered in Replay" section. Each line contains the following information:

  • Asset

  • Rule name

  • Start and end dates in which the conditions of the rule and replay were met for an alert to be triggered

  • Links to the data inspector page and telematics data page to inspect the results of the Rule replay

Refresh this page periodically to see the results until the status says "done".

Re-run this replay

Have you updated your rule and want to test it again? You don't need to create a replay from scratch again; you can use the re-run replay tool.

For this, navigate to your previously created rule replay and click on "Re-run the replay" in the upper right corner of your screen in the "Tools" section. This action will duplicate your previously created replay to a new one and allow you to re-test your updated rule with this replay while keeping the exact same setup as your initial rule replay had.

Please note that refreshing your initially created rule replay after a change to the rule does not re-test the updated rule.

Export XLSX

You can export your rule replay results to XLSX for further analysis by clicking "Export XLSX" in the upper right corner of your screen in the "Tools" section.
