The refuel alert

From an operational point of view, you might be interested in being warned when one of your locomotives has been refueled, and which quantity of fuel has been added to its tank.

This is the goal of our "Refuel" alert. This alert will notify you once the ongoing refuel is finished and tell you the amount of fuel added in the process. This alert detects refuels larger than 5% of the full tank capacity.

Setting up notification rules for the Refuel alert

To create a notification rule for the refuel alert, you first need to log into your Railfleet account. Then go to the Administration page by clicking on your email address in the upper right corner of the page and selecting "go to administration".

Head over to the Administration menu on the left hand side and select "Notification rules" in the Notification section.

Click the green button on the right hand side of the page to set up a new notification rule. Next, give the notification rule a name (e.g. "Locomotive refuel"). Check the boxes next to

  • Is active, if this notification rule should be executed
  • Send email, if the alert notification should be sent as an email
  • Is alert, if the alert should be shown on the operational dashboard

Then select the event type "Alert: Refuel" from the drop down menu.

Next, select who you wish to inform about the alert. You can do this by selecting a category (e.g. the category "maintainer" or "operator") at the bottom of the form. Select "Label of the asset" to contact the people connected to the asset for which the alert has popped up.

You can also select specific people you wish to contact in the "Always notify these users" section near the bottom of the page. Search and select an email address and click on the grey arrow that points to the right to add the user to the "to contact" list.

If you don't want to receive this alert for all your assets you can easily select assets or asset classes. To do so, go to the "Filter" tab at the top of the page. Select the assets or asset classes from the lists and click on the grey arrow that points to the right to add them to the whitelist. If no assets or asset classes are selected, you'll receive the alert for all your assets or asset classes.

Click the "Save" button in the upper right corner of the page to save the new notification rule. Once the rule is active you will start receiving the "Refuel" alerts when a refuel is detected.

Depending on the notification settings you'll receive the alert via email and/or on the Operational Dashboard

The alert will show you which asset has been refuelled, when the refuel took place and how much fuel was supplied. Both the alert email and the Operational Dashboard allow you to easily access the fuel data in the Data Inspector which will show you additional context for the alert.

Besides real-time fuel and refuel monitoring, you can also keep track of your monthly fuel consumption, get a summary of weekly refuels and see a map of refuel locations in the "Reporting" section on Railfleet:

Each refuel on the map directs to the Data Inspector to give additional context:

You can download these reports and a detailed refuel report for further analysis or comparisons:
