Component management is a tool that allows you to create and manage components and counters in Railfleet for your assets.
If you are a Railnova company administrator, you can set up and manage different components (or sub-components) for your assets under the administration panel by visiting "Component management" in the Railfleet section.
In this article, the following functions are discussed:
Before creating components for your assets, ensure that the asset's component state has been correctly defined.
There are three different component states:
If your component state is marked with a "green checkmark", it means that components have been initialised for counters already. No further action is required.
If your component state is marked with a "grey question mark", no components have been initialised for counters yet. You need to arrange for this as described below.
If your component state is marked with a "red x", a component structure has already been assigned and therefore you cannot initialize head components for the asset anymore. The initialisation however has not been carried out properly. To correct this, an asset administrator needs to modify the asset component structure and re-initialise for counters again as described below.
Go to Assets in the Admin menu to check the current component state of your asset:
Change or correct the component state
If you would like to change or correct the component state (e.g. the component state of the asset is marked by a red cross), then go to the Admin menu -> Assets and look up the desired vehicle. Click on the asset and modify the asset component structure in the dropdown list to "------" then save.
Please don't click on the red cross next to the asset component structure to remove it, it will delete the maintenance plan and will affect your preventive maintenance planning of the locomotive and all locomotives of that type that have the same maintenance plan. After saving this change, the status of the component state becomes a question mark (aka undefined).
Click the blue "Save" button in the upper right corner of your screen to save your changes.
You need to define the component type which you would like to assign to your asset. If you go to the Admin menu -> Component management -> Component types, you can view the component types that have already been created for your company.
If your desired component type is not listed yet, you can create your own one by clicking on "Add component type".
Give a unique name to your component type (e.g. asset class) and choose a subtype from the dropdown menu then click on "Save".
Add a component structure
Once the component type has been created, you need to see if the preferred component structure already exists within your organisation.
Go to the Admin menu -> Railfleet -> Component management -> Component structures to see which component structures are available for your company.
If the desired component structure doesn't exist yet, you can create your own component structure by clicking on "add component structure" in the right upper corner of your screen.
Choose the component type from the dropdown list, define a label, auto serial message type, and auto serial field name if you like and make sure you choose at least one operation group if then click on "Save".
Initialize component for counters
Now you need to initialize the component for your counters. The easiest way is to do this per asset class in bulk, otherwise, you have to do this one by one per vehicle. Go to Asset and filter on the asset class. Choose the vehicles without the active component state by ticking their tick boxes, scroll down and choose 'initialize component for counters'. Make sure to select the correct asset class.
Choose "Initialize component for counters" from the dropdown menu then click on "Go".
Once the initialisation is complete, the component state of the asset will turn to a green checkmark and the asset component structure is listed.
The asset component structure can also be viewed under the asset by scrolling to the section ECM config.
